Hybrid Cloud Security Demands Total Network Unity

While more business leaders are accepting hybrid cloud deployments as the optimal choice in data center provisioning, the security challenges that accompany these strategies are still a issue for IT administrators everywhere.

How to Unlock the Secret Benefits of Shadow IT

Enterprise leaders often fail to recognize the other side of the coin when it comes to shadow IT: the innovation and creativity that results from the use of the cloud.

Prepare Infrastructure For The Cloud App Explosion

The cloud is a compelling foundation on which companies can build the customized application ecosystem of their dreams.

The rise of cloud computing has been rapid and wide-reaching, as organizations across the globe embrace the cost-saving, quick-hitting impact of the technology. From the expansive IT fortresses at the enterprise level down to the nascent start-up scene that leverages little-to-no physical infrastructure, the cloud is as diverse as it is powerful.

What is a Network Enabled Cloud Anyway?

The term Cloud is pretty generic.  So generic that it is confusing to many outside of an IT organization.  Ask five people what the Cloud is and you’ll likely get five different answers.  The Cloud concept as it relates to Telecom is nothing more than storing and accessing something remotely, then using or consuming  it locally.  It could be accessed and used via a private network, or more commonly over the public Internet.

Are You Ready for the Multicloud World?

Not too long ago I wrote about how the cloud has created a rebirth of interest in the notion of using Bandwidth on Demand (BoD) within the Ethernet/Wide Area Network (WAN) space.  Dusting off BoD and adding in QoS (Quality of Service) as part of an intelligent WAN solution is a great step forward.  The next major development is to bring that capability to a Multicloud environment.  My opinion is that BoD brings ultimate flexibility to easily and securely reach multiple cloud providers as part of building a Cloud Intelligent Netwo

March Madness - Let The Drama Begin!

March Madness is in full swing, and many of us are consuming the updates across multiple media sources:  TV, text updates, streaming video, streaming play by play, social media, etc.  The latest updates are brought to us via computers, smartphones, and tablets; and we can’t seem to get them fast enough.  The first day of March madness is consistently one of the busiest days of the year for Internet traffic with averages pushing 30% above normal.

I Want My Bandwidth and I Want it Now!

The idea of Bandwidth on Demand (BoD) is not a new concept.  It’s been around for many years in the IP space in the form of Bandwidth Bursting – pay only for what you use when you use it.  The emergence of Cloud Computing has re-invigorated this on-demand concept.  Migrating applications off-site and into the cloud means that a dynamic, usage-based Ethernet wide area network (WAN) is incredibly attractive from a networking perspective.  The growing volume of cloud-based applications, the unpredictable nature of bandwidth usage, and the timing of when the bandwidth will be needed has made ne

Why Ethernet over Copper is Critical

My last blog post, Why Ethernet is Winning Against DSx and OCx Technologiesdiscussed the merits of Ethernet and why it’s taking over the world. This blog post will focus on precious metals. The two topics are far more related than you might think.

The Revolutionary Network

Why Ethernet is Winning Against DSx and OCx Technologies

This is an easy question to gloss over for those who live and breathe Telecom. The reality is it isn’t clear why the word “Ethernet” is creeping into our lives more frequently. There are still plenty of us in “the biz” who know what Ethernet is, and we also know that it is taking over; but don’t really know why exactly it’s favored over DSx and SONET technologies. Let’s first take a very quick look back on how we got here.

Buy Your Next Set of Tires and 100M EoC from XO

The tires on your car are important. More important than we give credit. Body design, leather interior, GPS, and voice activated commands capture our attention, but if they put knobby tires on the Porsche, it loses its luster.

Ethernet is similar. It’s the foundation that creates a smooth ride for the latest in communications. It’s why XO has just announced it has extended its Ethernet services with new speeds and expanded nationwide coverage.
