Cost Effective Networking Over Reliable Ethernet Technology
Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) is a Layer 2-based service running on Ethernet technology and is ideally suited for multi-site to multi-site connectivity. Based upon an MPLS core architecture, Carrier VPLS service creates a virtual LAN environment where inter-connected LANs look to the customer as a single bridged LAN. Using VPLS, customers will be able to leverage the ease of use of Ethernet and the resiliency of MPLS technology in order to support mission critical, highly secure applications and multi-site connectivity.
XO Carrier VPLS also offers customers four optional classes of service (CoS), all available for one price. The SLAs associated with the VPLS offering vary by the chosen class of service, but all cover critical service elements such as latency, jitter, packet delivery and availability.

How VPLS Works
VPLS leverages the XO nationwide fiber network, combined with the widest coverage of off-fiber Ethernet available today. Highly affordable Ethernet over Copper and Ethernet over DSx options provide customers access to nearly 4 million buildings and as many as 10 million businesses nationwide.
VPLS offers more than just a Layer 2 VPN with Class of Service (CoS); it also includes Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) and IP-VPN services, over a single VPLS connection, at no additional cost.
