XO Communications Unveils Metro Wavelength Services Nationwide
XO Offering Metro Wavelength Services in each of its 62 U.S. Markets
RESTON, VA - XO Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: XOXO), one of the world's fastest-growing providers of broadband communications solutions, today announced that it has introduced OC-12 (622 Mbps), OC-48 (2.5 Gbps) and OC-192 (10 Gbps) capacity metro wavelength services in each of its 62 U.S. markets.
The XO Metro Wavelength Service (MWS) is a protected service that provides carrier and enterprise customers with high bandwidth and protocol transparent flexibility at a low cost per megabit. By offering a protected service, XO can manage and maintain its customers' services and provision additional metro wavelengths, all without service interruption.
Made possible by XO's deployment of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment in its metro fiber networks, XO MWS provides each customer with a wavelength of light on a fiber optic strand, which is used exclusively for that customer's service and can operate at different bit rates and support different transport protocols (e.g., SONET, ATM, IP, etc.). Using its robust metro fiber networks, the XO MWS currently delivers up to 33 separate wavelengths of capacity per fiber strand and provides a competitive advantage to customers by offering greater network capacity and scalability at lower transport and capital costs.
"Our extensive metro fiber networks enable us to offer customers expanded metro area network capacity that can now be provisioned for the customer in weeks rather than months," said Nancy Gofus, XO Executive Vice President of Marketing and Customer Care. "XO MWS provides high-end networking capabilities to enterprise and carrier customers at a relatively low fixed monthly cost that essentially eliminates distance-sensitive concerns of other networking alternatives."
XO Communications has launched its Metro Wavelength Services to offer carrier and enterprise customers the ability to realize dedicated and protected OC-12 to OC-192 (622Mbps to 10Gbps) capacity between multiple sites within a metro area. This service delivers flexible, high-speed capacity that can be used to extend the reach of customers' networks and manage network gaps, while enabling them to quickly provision high capacity circuits to complete a SONET ring or connect two or more locations within a metropolitan area.
"XO is one of the first broadband communications providers to roll out wavelength services to the enterprise market across 62 U.S. markets," said Nick Maynard, an Analyst with the Yankee Group. "XO's extensive metro fiber assets and long-haul capacity will play a fundamental role in allowing XO to gain market share in this space."
XO is selling the wavelength services throughout its markets in the United States with an 1100+ person direct sales force that include teams of data sales specialists and experienced national account sales executives.
